Likely spoilers ahead!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has an overall good roster of movies to justify its success with some modern classics, mostly solid entries and even a few duds (thanks, Thor). CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is in the modern classic category for its boldness.
GOOD: BOLD STEPS FORWARD
WINTER SOLDIER is head-and-shoulders better than THE AVENGERS as a film and on par with IRON MAN 3 (which I said was Marvel’s best… I lied… this is better). The actors are more confident in their roles, the story is less a “comic book” type and on par with a Jason Bourne or Tom Clancy story with conspiracy, betrayal, and some very intense action scenes.
Furthermore, Marvel took the bold step of stripping away clandestine S.H.I.E.L.D. (which is also felt within the ABC series AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.) through a decades-long infestation by World War II terror organization HYDRA. The movie also dropped MAJOR leads for the upcoming AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON including a hot mid-credits stinger scene.
BAD: SOME PLOT POINTS DIDN’T QUITE MAKE SENSE
For some good infotainment, just watch what Cinema Sins had to say about the movie. Some things don’t quite make sense.
UGLY: MISSING CHARACTERS
I really wanted to see Red Skull return. He never officially died.
Also, where are the Avengers that are still on Earth? Stark? Banner? Hawkeye? Are they at Starbucks?
Out of a possible 10.
